but why is the pie square
Hi, I'm Pie. I like a lot of things. My blog is really gay, and I'm not sure how that happened. Expect to see from me mainly Supernatural, Doctor Who, Assassin's Creed, Sherlock, and an assorted other things. Also, I tend to have a lot of Destiel spam...You have been warned.

HOW TO DEAL WITH SEIZURES, ASTHMA ATTACKS, AND PANIC/ANXIETY ATTACKS.

Please, share this! it could help someone help their friend.

For seizures you have to lay them on their side, if they are laying face up they WILL choke (gravity) (sometimes you are unable to lay them on their side)

You should always put someone on their side who is having a seizure (unless they are resisting you, because forcing them could hurt them). This will help assist their breathing, and prevent them from choking should they vomit. As far as getting them down on the floor, make sure the area is clear of anything that could harm them, and assist them gently down to the floor if they cannot do it themselves (assist them gently sounds like bullshit if you’ve ever had to help someone having a tonic clonic (grand mal) seizure, but you have to do your best to minimize injury to them and yourself). After the seizure, the person should be placed in the recovery position, seen here (the recovery position is generally a good thing to put people in danger of choking, unconscious people, etc, into because it opens up the airway and their limbs lock them into place so they cannot roll and hurt themselves further- unless the person has a suspected head/neck injury, in which case don’t move them please:

Their mouth should be facing downwards. This helps them maintain their breathing. Also not mentioned for any emergency is that you should always check to see if the person is wearing a medical bracelet.

My father suffers from grand mal seizures, and they are terrifying if you have never seen one before. People will panic, and I can guarantee you at least one person will try to shove something in their mouth. DO NOT LET THEM. Best case scenario this will break their teeth, worst case scenario it will choke and kill them. The most important things you can do are to get the person on the floor after clearing any objects away, put them on their side, put something soft under their head (a pillow, rolled up sweatshirt, whatever) to keep them from banging their head, keep everyone around them calm and quiet, DO NOT RESTRAIN THEM, and let the seizure continue uninterrupted. The only time you should call 911 is if the seizure goes on for longer than five minutes, if they have multiple seizures in a row, if they are pregnant, have diabetes or known heart or breathing problems (or other preexisting health conditions besides the seizures) if they have a noticeable fever, if you know FOR CERTAIN they have never had a seizure before, or if they have a head injury. AMBULANCES ARE EXPENSIVE, even with insurance, and seizures can happen relatively frequently. The last thing someone with a recurrent illness needs is more medical bills if it’s not really an emergency.

And especially DO NOT FORGET TO TIME THE SEIZURE. You want the timing to be as accurate as possible. This is important because you need to know whether or not to call an ambulance. Many epileptic people are aware of how long their seizures generally last, and hopefully you have been informed on what time period to expect. If not, after five minutes or so an ambulance is a good idea.

Basically to sum this up:

Don’t panic

Keep the people around you from yelling and causing a panic as much as you can

Clear the area around the person

Help them on the ground to their side, don’t put anything in their mouth, and put something under their head

Call 911 if it goes on longer than five minutes (or their normal seizure time if you know it) or if they have another serious injury or preexisting health condition

Stay safe!
